Wordsworth Communications Named Agency of the Year by PRSA - Cincinnati

Every year the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) Cincinnati Chapter presents its local equivalent of the Anvil Awards to showcase and honor exemplary work in the field of public relations. Called the Blacksmith Awards, the 2011 ceremony was held on November 16, and Wordsworth Communications received a number of major distinctions.

The agency received a Blacksmith Award as the “2011 Agency of the Year”, a Blacksmith Award honoring Wordsworth’s Christine Demeropolis as Cincinnati’s “Young Professional of the Year”, and a Blacksmith Award for “Best Social Media Campaign” on behalf of client Protect-a-Bed.

Wordsworth also won a Bronze Social Media Award on behalf of Verizon Wireless and a Silver Special Event Award recognizing work performed for The Kenwood by Senior Star senior living facility.

occupy movement is food for thought to bankers, legislators

Comments by Wordsworth President and CEO Mike Maul about Occupy Movement-related communications have appeared recently in a number of banking and legislative news sources. He encouraged banks to do more to defend their brands, their services and their reputations.

"Granted, being under fire is no picnic," Maul said. "Plan A often devolves to burying your head in the sand and ignoring the threat until it goes away. By the time companies get around to Plan B, the damage can be astronomical. Unanswered criticism can be a very costly strategy.”

Wordsworth Earns High Marks in International Peer Review

Wordsworth Communications recently learned the agency was rated “Very Good” following an in-depth review by other agency owners who are members of the  Worldcom Public Relations Group, the world’s leading partnership of independently owned public relations counseling firms in 95 cities worldwide.  The review was conducted in October, and evaluated the agency in categories such as strategic approach, client satisfaction performance metrics, quality control and management standards.

Peers reviewing Cincinnati-based Wordsworth included the President and CEO of RLF Communications in Greensboro, North Carolina and the Founder and Managing Partner of Linhart PR in Denver.  Following the nearly three-hour review, Wordsworth was informed that it satisfied all measurement criteria for quality and professionalism.  Reviewers were impressed with Wordsworth’s creative ideas, innovative and effective campaigns, solid systems and fundamentals and its “long legacy of leadership in the market.”

Why Not Give a Little?

These days, area charities continue to feel the pain of increased need and reduced contributions from traditional sources. But they know how to do a lot with a little, and even small contributions from businesses can make a big difference.

In environments like this, every little bit helps.  Recently Wordsworth has divided up nearly $6,000 to help ten nonprofit charities, including:

Patty Brisben Foundation for Women

People Working Cooperatively

Every Child Succeeds

Greater Cincinnati Foundation

Junior Achievement of Greater Cincinnati

Hospice of Cincinnati

Fernside Center

Findlay Market

Freestore Foodbank

Girls on the Run – Greater Cincinnati

We encourage other small business in the area to join in supporting some of the many deserving nonprofit providers of care and services who will appreciate your help, now more than ever.

So Long 2011

All in all, 2011 was a good year in the corner of the world where we live at Wordsworth -- filled with accomplishments, hard work and fun.

Wordsworth turned 22 (what a great age!)

Some people became engaged...  Other people got married

Some graduated from college...    Others returned to America

And some people welcomed new grandbabies!

We welcomed new clients, too, and were doubly privileged to continue serving clients we have enjoyed and worked next to now for many years.

And when it comes to describing a good year, Wordsworth just couldn’t say it any better than that.

WORDSWORTH ADDRESSES INTERNATIONAL PR GROUP AT HAWAII CONFERENCE

Joe Shields, executive vice president of Cincinnati-based Wordsworth Communications, addressed attendees on the topic of agency best practices earlier this month at the Worldcom 2011 Americas Conference held October 12-14 in Honolulu.  The conference was attended by senior executives of independently-owned PR firms from throughout the United States and many parts of the world, including Argentina, Australia, Brazil and Thailand.

Shields’s October 13 presentation, entitled “Help Me Help You”, focused on successful ways Wordsworth has developed to quickly forge productive shared marketing partnerships with new clients.

“The presentation speaks mainly to those whose PR tactics call for publicity and Word-of- Mouth (WOM) exposure, either within legacy media or in the social media space,” Shields said. “Discussions of random story ideas are usually channeled into discussions of strategy and one of the most valuable results is the creation of a valued and trusted partner.”
